Have You Lost Your IC? Here Are The Things You Should Do

Notice that you have lost your IC? So, what are you supposed to do next? Losing your IC more than twice can cause you up to RM1,000 to be able to get a replacement.

Here are the steps you have to take if you ever lose your IC:

  1. Why is it a big deal?

Losing your IC is, in fact, a big deal because if it possesses by the wrong person, many unwanted things can happen to you. Criminals can steal your identity and use the IC to commit fraud or theft, like applying for new credit cards or broadband services.

  1. What to do next?

The very first thing you must do after realising that you have lost your IC is to make a police report. It does not matter whether the IC is lost because of a crime or your negligence; remember to make a police report for the lost IC.

If you do not have free time to visit a police station, make your police report online at e-Reporting

Then, visit any Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) branch with your police report in order to apply for a replacement. You also can use the JPN’s online “Replace MyKad Malaysia Online System” to apply via online.

  1. What to do if you lose your IC overseas?

If you lost your IC while vacationing overseas, visit a local police station near you and make an official police report.

Then, bring the overseas police report to a police station once you return to Malaysia. The official overseas police report is needed by PDRM to fill out a report for you.

  1. What if you were robbed?

If you are the victim of a robbery or snatch theft, you will not be required to pay the replacement charge.
