Top 10 Best Prawn Mee in Penang 2025

As a Penangite, believe it when we say we take pride in our own food. If you’re a foodie and ever find yourself in Penang, you must have the tastiest prawn mee there is! Penang’s Prawn Mee is unlike any other bowl of soupy prawn noodles because it was created using family traditions and techniques.

There are also more names for prawn mee, including Penang har mee in Cantonese. At least one of these enticing Penang prawn mee stalls should definitely be visited. So here are the top 10 best prawn mee in Penang.

Where did prawn mee originate from?

Hokkien prawn noodle soup was first introduced to Singapore in the mid-1800s by immigrants from China’s Fujian province, according to many early versions of its history. The stock was created by brewing dried shrimp and scallops for at at least eight hours, giving the soup its orange colour.

Why is prawn mee popular?

The Malaysian Chinese love the specialty noodle soup known as “prawn mee.” The soup’s distinctiveness comes from the foundation, which is made with a massive quantity of shrimp heads and shells combined with concentrated pork bones to create a rich, creamy, and intensely flavorful broth.
