Roti Kapas is run by a married couple who venture into the business in Klang. Nur Dini Farina, one of the owners, shared that they were inspired by Indonesian pau and bao. Then, they combine both steamed buns into Roti Kapas to create something unique and interesting to get people’s attention.
If you are wondering why it is named Roti Kapas, it is because the bun’s softness is as soft as a cloud. This steamed bun also makes a perfect fit to be enjoyed during breakfast and tea time. This is because you can eat it the way it is or dip it into your favourite cup of coffee or tea.
There are two types of Roti Kapas in different fillings, sweet and savoury, catering to people’s tastes.
The sweet ones come in seven flavours:
- Dark Crunch Chocolate
- Milk Chocolate
- Cookies & Cream
- Matcha Green Tea
- Popcorn Caramel
- Butter Kaya
Meanwhile, the savoury ones come in five flavours:
- Daging Rempah
- Ayam Rempah
- Rendang
- Tuna Cili
- Tuna Mayo
So many options, right? If you are indecisive, worry not because we asked Nur which one is recommended for first-timers. Milk Chocolate, Matcha Green Tea, and Dark Crunch Chocolate are the best sellers and show stealers for those with a sweet tooth.
However, if you are keen on indulging in savoury buns, you should try Ayam Berempah and Daging Berempah to match your palate. As Ramadan approaches, Roti Kapas also participates in providing new flavours, such as Rendang, Durian and other savoury fillings.
Roti Kapas is also relatively new, as the stall was officially opened to serve the public on 11th January 2023. Due to the lack of manpower in production, it is challenging for the couple to produce a huge number of buns.
They chose Padang Jawa because it was the original site of the bakery they planned to establish. However, due to an unfortunate incident, they had to settle for selling Roti Kapas under canopies instead.
