According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale struck North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 10:59 pm yesterday.

The director-general of METMalaysia, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah, said that the earthquake with a depth of 86 kilometres (km) took place 84 kilometres (km) to the southwest of Padang Sidempuan, Indonesia.
The tremors also may be felt in Selangor, Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
However, Malaysia is not under any threat of a tsunami.


The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) also received a call regarding tremors felt by a Pudu Impian 1 Apartment resident in Jalan Cheras.
The residents were seen coming out of their homes following the tremors felt due to the earthquake in North Sumatra, Indonesia, at about 11:00 pm yesterday.
