At around 07:35 WIB on February 7, a magnitude-5.5 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Java.

The epicentre was located approximately 81 km west-southwest of Pelabuhanratu. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 58 km, and light shaking was most likely experienced in Banten, Jakarta, most of West Java, and far southern Lampung provinces.
There have been no initial reports of earthquake-related damage or deaths. Authorities may need many hours to undertake comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas.
There may be aftershocks in the next few days, but there were no tsunami warnings due to the quake.
In order to inspect for damage, officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone.
Minor disruptions may occur during shutdowns. However, service will most likely be restored soon if no damage is discovered. Utility interruptions are possible, especially around the epicentre of the earthquake.
