We got the chance to interview one of the founders of Los Primos EL Locos, Mohd bin Harun, and he shared a little bit of the background of the stall.

Los Primos EL Locos stands for “The Crazy Cousins” because Mohd used to manage the stall with his cousins, who are interested in and love Mexican foods. Mohd was an Art & Design student and never had taken any studies related to food before he decided to open a roadside tacos stall with his cousins. He used to work at a cafe before opening the business, and starting from there, he began to fall in love with Mexican cuisine. So, he began researching the cuisine and got a brilliant idea to open up a tacos stall.

We are thankful for his idea, as we can indulge in delicious tacos at an affordable price!

Mohd’s passion for cooking was one of the factors that drove him to take such a huge step and start the business. Mohd and his cousins pushed themselves to make their dream come true, and look where they are now! This business started 1 year ago, around September, so you can say that they are still new in the food industry. Before the stall, Mohd and his cousins prepared their orders at home because they had never had the experience of operating stalls.

Los Primos EL Locos has gone viral for the past few months. People will be swarming to the stall to try their flavourful tacos! Bear in mind that you might need to line up to order but worry not, because the hustle of queuing will be all worth the wait after you take your first bite into its crispy and scrumptious tacos!

Los Primos EL Locos is a tacos stall specialising in selling tacos, the popular Mexican street food. We asked Mohd what he would recommend to first-timers. He mentioned three menus, including Quesabirria Tacos, Mixed Tacos and El Grande Quesadilla, which is perfect for sharing due to its huge portion. The name has the word “grande” in it for a reason!

The price range for their menus starts from RM17 to RM26, which is considered reasonable for tacos. You can also find two types of taco shells, flour and corn, so you can choose whichever matches your preference.

Let’s check out the prices for their popular menus:

Quesabirria Tacos

  • Flour: RM22
  • Corn: RM26

Mixed Tacos

  • Flour: RM20
  • Corn: RM24

El Grande Quesadilla

  • Flour: RM25

They chose the current location because they felt that many extraordinary and unique foods tend to be situated in Kuala Lumpur and Bukit Jelutong. Sure, you can travel there to enjoy the food, but they wondered why not open a stall in Shah Alam to cater to those who are avid in food hunting and trying something out of their comfort. Hence the birth of Los Primos EL Locos, the locals’ favourite roadside tacos stall.

They strive to maintain the food quality so people would want to keep coming back whenever they crave tacos. Mohd also wishes to expand the business by opening more branches but still wants to remain a street food business.

The tacos will be cooked at the spot to preserve freshness, so customers get to enjoy the hot and fresh tacos!

Mohd also shared that his average sales are 100 sets per day which are impressive, considering they only operate as a roadside stall.

Check out the huge tacos being cooked beside the small, regular-size ones! Definitely appropriate for sharing or for those who love tacos and would not mind indulging in the grande tacos all by themselves.

Yumm yumm! One of the customers immediately took a bit of the crunchy and flavourful tacos! The birria was cooked to perfection with a perfect balance of seasoning, and let’s not forget about the tender meat! 🤤The texture of the crispy taco shell complemented the flavourful, well-seasoned meat, leaving you with a marvellous, unforgettable note.

The best part is that not just tacos are being sold here, but you can also find nachos with cheese sold by Los Primos EL Locos. It is the best combination snack with your favourite tacos, especially for cheese lovers! You will be so much satisfied with this Mexican food served by them!

Lastly, Mohd also shared that he would face challenges when it comes to cooking the birria, the filling for the tacos. He must cook the birria every day, which will sometimes take a toll on him as the birria must be cooked for around 8 to 12 hours. To avoid the dish getting burnt, Mohd must frequently stir the pot, messing up his sleeping schedule. Even so, he motivates himself to keep doing what he loves.

Mohd asked people to appreciate and understand what they do. With the current state of the economy and inflation, he understands the hardship everyone is facing and hopes we all can fight together.
