The word “salai” means something that is dried and smoked on fire. In Petaling Jaya, there is a restaurant that specializes in Salai food! With a wide variety of menu, the restaurant offers different types of salai food such as tilapia salai, ayam salai, keli salai, itik salai and daging salai. Residents who live nearby or regulars always patronize this place, the queue starts as soon as 12 pm, so if you’re planning to visit the restaurant, make sure you come early!
Upon arriving, we were greeted by the friendly staff that introduced us to their signature dishes, which are the Itik Salai, Tilapia Salai, Undang Petai, Ayam Goreng Berempah and (insert), The dishes are displayed on the counters for you to view, while the worker will help you to your servings. There are also complementary vegetable dishes that you can help yourself with!
We were invited into the kitchen to see the cooking process of their signature Itik Saial and other Saiai Dishes as well! In rows of racks, their chicken and duck are dried and smoked under the fire. We’re immediately greeted by the strong, aromatic smell of the smoked chicken and duck. Next, the staff also introduced us to their Itik Salai while cooking them; they’re cooked and simmered in large woks to perfection.
We ordered their signature dishes such as the Tilapia Salai, Itik Salai, Undang Petai and Ayam Goreng Berempah. Everything smells so good! We also ordered their signature drink – Teh Tarik Lleh Lleh! It tastes as sweet as a milk tea with the fusion of a unique ingredient.

1. Itik Salai
Their Itik Salai is one of their signature dishes that we can’t wait to dive into! It has a strong aromatic, spice infused smell that is flavorful. 2. Tilapia Salai
Next up is the Tilapia Salai; other than its large size portion , their meat is tender, soft and sweet. It goes perfectly with the sauce. If you’re a fish lover, this is a dish that you should not miss out on!
3. Udang Petai
Next up is the Udang Petai that is stir fried in petai, chili, garlic and other ingredients; resulting in an aromatic prawn that is full of petai flavor with a tang of spiciness! The prawn are extremely fresh, each bite is filled with a slight crunch texture.
4. Ayam Goreng Berempah
Lastly is the Ayam Goreng Berempah. Fried to perfection and cooked with a number of spices and ingredients, this is one of the most aromatic, flavourful fried chicken that we have tasted! Though the meat has a slightly harder texture compared to normal chicken; the more you chew, the more flavor it brings out!
