“Life Me Up” marks the end of Rihanna’s six-year hiatus in the music industry, and the loyal fans have been very excited for the single to drop.
Marvel put the rest of the rumours by confirming that Rihanna will be contributing a song to the new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. “Lift Me Up”, the song’s title, would be Rihanna’s first song since 2016 and is described to be a tribute to the life and legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman.
After Marvel posted the announcement video, Rihanna followed up by sharing the cover art for her long-awaited single. “Life Me Up”
The cover displayed a black and white close-up of the singer with her name and the song’s title.
Before dropping the single, Rihanna shared a short clip of “Life Me Up” on Twitter with a soft humming only a few seconds long. It also reminiscences some of the more emotional melodies in the movie’s trailers.
In August 2022, Chadwick Boseman passed away at the age of 43 from cancer he had battled with for 4 years. The actor was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016 and fought it for 4 years until it progressed to stage IV.
Boseman starred in Marvel’s superhero movie, Black Panther, as King T’Challa and planned to make his return as the superhero and protagonist in Black Panther 2. Before his death, Ryan Coogler, the director of both Black Panther movies, shared that the sequel of Black Panther was “very much rooted in T’Challa’s perspective” but was rewritten to honour Boseman and his role.
The song was written by Rihanna along with Black Pather’s director Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, and Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems and is available on 28th October 2022.
“Lift Me Up” is released and can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release in cinemas in Malaysia on 10th November 2022.
