The Making of Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnight’ Album

Taylor Swift spoilt Swifties with the singer’s 10th studio album, including as many as 13 tracklists and exciting collaborations.

Taylor Swift, the world-famous singer, announced her new album titled ‘Midnights’ at VMAs 2022 back in August, and fans have been highly excited for the long-awaited album to be released since the shocking announcement.

“I had sort of made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out Oct. 21st,” Swift said in her speech.

She also wrote online, “Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out Oct. 21. Meet me at midnight,”.

The album announcement was finally made after almost a year of Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version) in November 2021. 

Swifties were also teased by the singer-songwriter for a week of activations and releases beginning the day before the album’s release.

The schedule for the week of the ‘Midnights’ release includes two music videos, Anti-Hero and a mystery song, two talk show appearances and a “special chaotic surprise for 3 am US time (3 pm UTC) on the day album release.

As if Swift’s teasing is not enough, she also revealed a whole other ‘Midnights’ album called Midnights (3am Edition) will be featuring seven bonus tracks in addition to the original 13.

What is the ‘Midnights’ album about?

Swift announced that the ‘Midnights’ album is a “collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.”

“For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching — hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve … we’ll meet ourselves,” she revealed online.

“Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out Oct. 21. Meet me at midnight.” added Swift. 

Not only that, but Swift also shared that the tracklists in the album were inspired by five different things, inclusive of self-loathing, fantasising about revenge, wondering what might have been, falling in love and falling apart.

What is the cover art for Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ album?

Visual is important when it comes to album covers, and Swift never disappoints her Swifties. She shared the official cover art for the new studio album, which displays her lightening a lighter while stunningly rocking shimmery blue eyeshadow. Swift will also be releasing three different vinyl covers: Jade Green, Blood Moon, and Mahogany.

Swift confirmed that her ‘Midnights’ album has as many as 13 new songs, and a deluxe version of the album will be available at Target, including three bonus tracks.

Ever since Swift announced her comeback, there have been many theories regarding the album’s genre, from soft rock to indie. Although the album is listed under the ‘pop’ category on Target’s website.

Right after the full tracklist was released, three bonus tracks: Hit’s Different, You’re On Your Own, Kid and a piano remix of Sweet Nothing was announced by Target US. 

On 6th October, Swift announced the title of the 11th song in ‘Midnights’, “Karma” and Swifties around the globe were taken by surprise. 

She shared that she had “been excited to announce this one”, referring to the song, and then burst into laughter instantly after announcing it.

Swifties were quick to express their predictions, with Scooter Braun and Kanye West being the two most obvious subjects of “Karma.”

Will ‘Midnights’ have any music videos?

Swift released the first music video for the ‘Midnights’ album on 21st October, the lead single “Anti-Hero”. A second music video is scheduled to release on 25th October.

Will Lana Del Ray be featured in the ‘Midnights’ album?

In one of Swift’s posts about “Snow On The Beach”, she revealed that Lana Del Rey is featured in the mentioned song. 

“Lana Del Rey, in my opinion, is one of the best musical artists ever,” said Swift.

“The song is about falling in love with someone at the same time they’re falling in love with you … when you realise that someone feels the same way that you feel at the same moment.” she added.

Are there other artists who contribute to the making of ‘Midnights’?

Several sneaky cameos are made on Swift’s latest album, and Swifties probably overlooked them. The 1st song in the ‘Midnights’ album, “Lavender Haze”, was co-written by Zoë Kravitz and featured her background vocals. The song is about wanting to ignore speculations and rumours to stay in happy “new love” lavender haze. 

We all know that “Snow On The Beach” features the famous American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey but there is also a surprise appearance made to play the drums in the song, and it was Dylan O’Brien. The ‘Teen Wolf’ and ‘Maze Runner’ actor starred in Swift’s “All Too Well: The Short Film”, which was released in November 2021. The song is about realising that you are falling for someone at the same time they are falling in love with you.

Is there an extended version of ‘Midnights’?

Swift surprised her fans with a “chaotic surprise” on her social media a week after her new album’s release. The singer stated that she will be releasing seven extra songs on her 10th studio album, Midnights (3am Edition).

Fans can enjoy the new songs “The Great War,” “Bigger Than the Whole Sky,” “Paris,” “High Infidelity,” “Glitch,” “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve,” and “Dear Reader.” on multiple kinds of music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music etc. 

“Surprise! I think of Midnights as a complete concept album, with those 13 songs forming a full picture of the intensities of that mystifying, mad hour,” Swift posted on her Instagram account, “However! There were other songs we wrote on our journey to find that magic 13. I’m calling them 3am tracks.” 

‘Midnights’ is Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album that features a more personal subject matter over 13 songs resulting from her 13 sleepless nights throughout her life.
