Ho Yan Hor is a famous and trusted Chinese Herbal Tea brand created by Dr. Ho Kai Cheong in Ipoh in 1941. The brilliant idea of selling dried tea leaves packed in sachets earned Dr. Ho the “King of Herbal tea” title. This tea is a specially formulated flu remedy made from a concoction of Chinese herbs and has been in production for over 80 years. At the front of the museum, you will see a replica of the founder’s first stall and inside the museum, there is a life-sized cut out of Dr Ho Kai Cheong posing next to a bicycle stacked with boxes wrapped in brown paper. This was how Dr Ho used to sell his tea in the olden days, travelling through villages from Perak to Penang. The museum also stores memorabilia from the company’s early days, such as the company’s packaging designs and handwritten promotional materials by Dr. Ho. A visit to this museum is a treat for those who have been drinking Ho Yan Hor teas and an eye-opening experience at the same time to understand the rich history behind the Ho Yan Hor brand.

Han Chin Pet Soo is Malaysia’s first Hakka tin mining museum in Ipoh’s Old Town and was originally the home of the Hakka Tin Miner’s Club. On display at the museum are artifacts, collectables, and photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries. It tells the tale of the history of Ipoh’s Hakka community. Much effort has been put into preserving the building, with many of its furniture and fixtures still in their original form. There are only 4 private museum tour sessions a day, each taking about an hour. So do make an online reservation on their website, as the tour sessions fill up relatively fast.
