5 Halloween Themed Desserts (No.4 is the easiest!)

Most of us get excited and prepare for halloween by dressing up and making cool or scary looking desserts. 

So if you’re searching for some ideas, look no further. We got you covered.

We compiled Halloween themed desserts from cakes to smores, so you can enjoy this with your family.

1. Spiderweb Cake

Everyone loves chocolate cake, and with just a little creativity, you can turn it into a spider web chocolate cake!

Total time: 55 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 210g jar marshmallow crème
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Prepare cake batter and bake according to the package instructions and let cool.
  2. To make the frosting, in a large bowl combine butter, sugar, marshmallow crème, vanilla extract, and salt and beat until fluffy.
  3. To make the ganache, in a small saucepan, heat heavy cream just until it bubbles. Add chocolate chips. Let stand for 2 minutes, then mix until the chocolate is completely combined.
  4. Time to assemble! Pour ganache over cake. Make spirals using the frosting on top of the ganache then use a toothpick to draw cobwebs.

Tip

  • Draw the cobweb from the center to the edge of the cake so it looks more neat. This ensures if the ganache starts to pour, it pours towards the edges, creating a nice aesthetic.

2. Meringue Ghost Cupcakes

These are going to be loved by the little ones. It’s so cute and tastes delicious!

Total time: 1 hour 25 mins

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 226 g chocolate, chopped
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whipping cream or milk
  • Vanilla meringue frosting
  • Candy eyes or use chocolate chips as eyes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°. 
  2. Melt butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth then let it cool.
  3. Beat eggs and sugar until well blended. Add chocolate mixture, beating until blended. Beat in vanilla.
  4. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture alternately with whipping cream, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Pour batter evenly into prepared muffin cups.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool.
  6. Pipe or spoon Vanilla Meringue Frosting into ghost shapes on tops of cupcakes. Add candy eyes or chocolate chips as eyes.

Tip

  • Ensure the cupcakes have cooled off completely before frosting, otherwise the frosting may melt.
  • This meringue ghosts can be added to other cupcake flavors too. 

3. Jack Skellington Oreo Pops

These are super simple to make actually! They are satisfying and can be even given as gifts by wrapping it up in cling film or other transparent wrappers.

Total time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • 12 Halloween Oreos
  • 2 cup white chocolate, melted
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • Black icing
  • 12 lollipop sticks
  • Black ribbon

Instructions:

  1. Line the baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Stick the lollipop sticks into the cream of the Oreos.
  3. Mix coconut oil into white chocolate and dip Oreos into the mixture until completely coated. Place in the refrigerator to harden, 5 – 10 minutes.
  4. Using the black icing, draw Jack’s face on the Oreos and let cool slightly. Tie a black ribbon in a bow at the bottom of the Oreo and serve.

Tip

  • Ensure the white chocolate coating is completely harden before applying the black icing to ensure it doesn’t smear off.

4. Ghost S’mores Dip

These will give you a nice warm feeling when enjoyed with some hot chocolate drink. SUPER FAST to prepare by the way!

Total time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 bag marshmallows
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream, warmed
  • Crackers, for serving
  • Mini chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°. 
  2. In the bottom of a 9-inch baking dish, spread out chocolate chips and pour cream on top. Cover completely with marshmallows. Place mini chocolate chips as eyes and mouth. 
  3. Bake until the chocolate has melted and the ghosts are slightly golden, 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Serve warm with graham crackers for dipping.

Tip: You may serve it also with chocolate syrup for added flavor and happiness hehehe!

5. Black Cat, Bat, Spider, and Mice Doughnuts

This recipe lets you customize your desserts into 4 different variants!

Ingredients

  • 170 g chocolate, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • Black gel food coloring, optional
  • 4 doughnuts 
  • 4 doughnut holes
  • Candy, M&M’s, chocolate wafer cookies and royal icing for decorating 

Instructions:

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and place a wire rack on top. 
  2. In a small saucepan, heat cream until hot but not boiling. Pour in the chocolate, let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until melted and smooth. Stir in a few drops of food coloring to tint black. 
  3. Using 2 forks, dip each doughnut in chocolate, tapping off any excess, then transfer to a wire rack to set. Decorate using candies, cookies, and royal icing as desired.

Tip: This is a great way to make use of doughnut holes, plus it creates some variety in the sizes.
