When something comes in a beautiful shape, you can’t help but look twice. That’s what molds are for. It helps give your baking goods beautiful, interesting shapes. Recently, silicone baking molds have been very favourable.
Why Silicone?
Silicone is a type of material made of silicon and oxygen atoms, known as a siloxane linkage, which is attached to various organic groups. There are many uses for silicones and one of it is as a silicone rubber in cooking and baking tools. They are an excellent material for the following reasons:
- High heat resistance – You can use silicone whisks or spatulas[link to Are You Using The Right Spatula? Article] to cook and not worry about them melting when placed in a hot pot.
- Non-porous – So they don’t retain odor or change in color after long periods of time
- Rubber-like – They are easy and flexible to use when scraping pans and don’t scratch surfaces
- Safe – It is inert, making it less likely to react with other chemicals to form any hazardous gaseous and or undergo corrosion
Sounds great, so which Silicone Molds should I get?
It all depends on what you want to bake. They are different molds for each purpose
Round Silicone Cake Mold
The mold is for you to bake your classic round shaped cakes. Due to the nature of silicone, it heats up quickly and cools down quickly too once taking it out of the oven. The best part is, remember how it can be hard to remove the cake out of the mold? By using a silicone mold, you don’t need to worry about that anymore. It slips out nicely while still retaining its wonderful shape.
Square Silicone Cake Mold
Modern cakes tend to have a square look. So you can bake one easily by using the square silicone cake mold. In addition to that, you can use the square mold to bake brownies. It becomes hassle free to release them out of the mold. Just be sure to hold them carefully, as they can be a little flimsy due the silicones rubbery characteristic.
Silicone Muffin Pan
If you’re like me – a person who loves muffins or cupcakes, you should get yourself the Silicone Muffin Pan. It pops out easily without having to worry about accidentally smashing the muffin and ruining its shape. (yes that would be very sad if it were to happen) The Silicone Muffin Pan is super easy to clean too since it is so flexible. You can bend it a little, to get to those hard to reach corners.
Silicone Baking Cups
I adore these! Silicone Baking Cups replace cupcake cups or liners which are often made for only one time use. By using the silicon cups, you can fill in your cupcake batter, bake with it, then remove them easily before eating and finally wash the cups for future use. This way, you save your money because you don’t have to keep buying cupcake liners. On top of that, you save the environment by lessening the production of paper, foil and other disposable cupcake liner. Yay for environmentalists! Moreover, they come in many cute sizes and colors. Wonderful right? Besides that, some people even use these silicone baking cups to hold sauces as dips or even use them as a container to separate food in bentos.
Silicone Bundt Pan
Personally, this would be a very pretty cake for moms because of it’s elegant shape. You can be rest assured that the Silicone Bundt pan will hold its shape and fluted pattern. You also don’t need any other extra tools to remove it from the mold, it will be released effortlessly.
Silicone Loaf Pan
If you want to bake your own bread[link to Bake Bread Like A Pro: Flour Types and Tips article] (which most people are doing nowadays), you should get the Silicone Loaf Pan. It is awesome because it is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe! The silicone pan is incredibly convenient as you don’t even need to spray or apply anything on the pan to make it come off easily after baking, while still retaining its firm structure. Additionally, cleaning up the pan is a breeze because of its non-stick qualities. Now you are equipped with the knowledge of the best silicon molds and their benefits. Do share them with your friends who still are having a hard time to get those cupcakes out of pan lol.
