Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), a cash aid programme previously known as Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM), begins its Phase 1 disbursements to entitled Malaysians starting today, 17th January 2023.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that the government has allocated RM1.67 billion under STR’s phase 1, which will benefit 8.7 million people from the B40 group.
Based on the breakdown, 4 million households will receive RM300 cash, while single individuals and senior citizens with no partners will get RM100 each. The STR cash aid will be credited to qualified recipients’ registered bank accounts in stages.
People with no bank account will be able to redeem the cash aid at Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) starting today, 17th January 2023.

According to Anwar, the Unity Government emphasises a compassionate approach to defending the less fortunate, particularly the vulnerable and poor. The rebranded B40 cash aid program under the Ministry of Finance is said to be improved over time.
STR was originally scheduled for March 2023, but the Prime Minister said he decided to accelerate Phase 1 to this month to ease the people’s burden. The disbursement will be done in phases and include STR recipients living in rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak.
