1. Taiping Lake Gardens

The Taiping Lake Gardens is the first public garden established during British rule in Malaysia. It was originally a mining ground before being established as a public garden in 1880. The garden is located near Bukit Larut and there are about 10 man-made lakes and ponds throughout the garden. If you visit Taiping, be sure to visit the Lake Gardens because its scenery and lush greenery are truly a sight to behold.

The Taiping Zoo is a zoological park located at Bukit Larut, Taiping, Perak. The zoo is located in a natural setting within the Taiping Lake Gardens. It was established in 1961 and remains the oldest zoo in Malaysia to date. The Taiping Zoo is currently home to more than 140 species of animals, including tigers, lions, elephants, deers, giraffes, hornbills, orangutans, and many more. Visitors are allowed to observe the animals in their natural habitat while enjoying the surrounding scenery.

The Perak Museum is a public museum located at the junction of Jalan Muzium and Jalan Taming Sari in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. It is the first and oldest museum in Malaysia and was founded by Sir Hugh Low. Here, you can find geological, botanical, and enthamobological collections. To date, the number of collections has increased to a total number of 8,474, consisting of 5,074 cultural collections, 523 nature collections, and 2,877 miscellaneous collections, including archaeological items.

The Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve is a hidden gem that is perfect for nature lovers. This forest reserve is located within a sprawling 40,000 hectares, which is also the home of mangrove trees and various species of plants, insects, and animals. There is a cafe within the reserve if you wish to have a tea break, and also a gift shop to purchase some souvenirs.

The Charcoal Factory is located in Kuala Sepetang, formerly known as Port Weld. Kuala Sepetang is situated within the Matang mangrove forest reserve, which is the largest and best-managed mangrove forest in Malaysia. The WonderFarm Mushroom is a mushroom farm. At the farm, there is a guided tour available, where the guide will teach you the correct method of planting an organic mushroom. The Taiping War Cemetery is a historical site located 2 kilometers south of the town, past Taiping Garden, on the road to the waterfall and swimming pool. The cemetery was created by the Army after Japan’s defeat and is the final resting place for Allied personnel killed during World War II. Servicemen who died after the war or during their posting in northern Malaya before the Malayan Emergency are also interred here.
